SeaNovel is developing high-performance bioplastic resins derived from Ulva seaweed, transforming marine biomass into scalable materials designed to integrate into existing industrial production lines. The technology addresses one of the central challenges in sustainable materials: creating alternatives to conventional plastics that combine environmental performance with industrial practicality and economic scalability.
The companyโs approach combines renewable marine biomass with a proprietary thermoplastic processing platform, enabling the development of compostable materials compatible with existing plastic manufacturing infrastructure. SeaNovelโs materials are designed to biodegrade rapidly in home compost conditions while maintaining key functional requirements such as industrial processability and food-contact compatibility.
Beyond packaging, the platform has potential applications across multiple industries, including cosmetics, agriculture, and biomedical products, sectors increasingly seeking lower-impact material solutions amid growing regulatory and market pressure to reduce plastic waste and reliance on fossil-based feedstocks.
What particularly stood out to us was the combination of deep scientific capability, industrial applicability, and a strong ecosystem of partners spanning industry, research institutions, and innovation stakeholders, alongside the support of the Israel Innovation Authority.
We look forward to supporting the SeaNovel team on their journey toward building the next generation of sustainable materials.
